God spoke

So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.
And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, "Jacob! Jacob!"
"Here I am," he replied.

"I am God, the God of your father," he said. "Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph's own hand will close your eyes."

Genesis 46: 1-4

I was doing my devotionals when I came across these verses. Usually, I read in the New Testament, but this time I decided to branch out a bit.

God is making a promise to Jacob to be with him when he goes down to Egypt and to bring him back again. I wondered why this was so exlicitely stated. Why did God say He would bring Jacob back up again? Then I thought to myself, why is this so important to me? What is God trying to tell me in this verse?

I believe that God will use the promises in the Bible to make promises to us. This is such a promise. God promises to be with us, to protect us, and to bring us up out of danger. Specifically I believe that God is using this as a promise for me. That by doing His will, and following His call on my life, He will be with me when I go and He will bring me back out.

Praise the Lord!
